They are OA Leaders who go through additional training to solidify their outdoor technical skill as well as develop skills necessary to be effective teachers. The Institute for Advanced Study Woods and Charles H. Rogers Wildlife Refuge form a 300-acre tract of deciduous forest bounded on the east side by the wet woodlands and marsh of the Refuge. Though crisscrossed by a network of trails and a sewer right-of-way, the Woods include a small area of virgin forest and harbor an unusual number of bird species, particularly during the songbird migration seasons. For this reason, the Woods are described in many birding guides and hiking books, and birders from all over the country come to visit.
Animal Tracking Cards are a great way to learn basic track identification. Each Card shows a general type of animal showing the basic track shape, standard walking gait and some basic facts about the tracks of the animals in that family. Print up a set and take them with you on your next tracking adventure.
For Frosh Trip backpacking trips, you will need a pair of mid-weight hiking boots. There are a number of options available from a variety of retailers. Below are a few examples of suitable boots.
Remember, hiking boots should cover your ankle and fit well with two pairs of sock (a mid-weight wool hiking sock plus a thin synthetic liner sock)
